Community Developer Karabo Monaheng from Manyatseng in Ladybrand continues to prune and develop the artistic talent of the youth in Manyatseng.
Monaheng is the Director of Mookodi Travelling Theatre which is behind an after-school project called Art in School program. He is also an events organizer.
The Art in School project started in 2019 to help school learners learn drama, dances, and poetry. Monaheng has partnered with Lereng Secondary School and Sehlabeng High School where Art in School takes place.
Together with Thabo Molete his friend, Monaheng and Molete in 2011 held an event called Umhlangano which was held at Arthur Pitso stadium. The success of Umhlangano led to the duo’s second collaborative event called Mantsopa Arts Festival, a competition in which local dance groups took part.
“With Mookodi Travelling Theatre, we do Drama, traditional dance, and poetry. We aim to ensure that our youth avoid drugs, crime, and teenage pregnancy but getting them busy and active in the arts.” Said Monaheng.
From 10-25 February 2024, Mookodi Travelling Theatre will be having auditions and they are looking for children and youth from ages 8-35.
