In a time of economic hardship and social unrest, a local charity organization is making a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable people in the community. Ahanang Charity, founded by Thato Thashka Mafikeng, a resident of Botshabelo A section, is on a mission to create lasting solutions to poverty, hunger, and social injustice.

Mafikeng, who grew up in poverty and knows the pain of suffering, was inspired to establish the organization to serve individuals and families in the poorest communities in the world.

“I don’t like to see someone in my community suffer,” she said. “Our objectives are to create a better world by providing services and support to those in need.”

Ahanang Charity has been active in various projects and events to help the needy, especially women and children. In May 2022, the organization went to Botshabelo Mall to donate clothes and sanitary towels to those in need. On June 16, they celebrated Youth Day with orphans at Siyathokoza Centre M section and provided them with clothes and sanitary towels. On April 15, they hosted a soup kitchen and clothes giveaway at Nthabeleng Primary School A section.

However, the organization faces financial challenges, as they do not have enough support from the community. Mafikeng and her team are not working, but they help people from their own pocket.

“We are doing our best to help those in need,” she said. “That’s why I’m proud of the changes I did to people’s lives.”

The organization’s future plans are to do more to help the community and to seek sponsors to help them.

“We are suffering financially, but our plan is to help everyone in need. We have a global vision, and we hope to expand our reach and impact”. Mafikeng said.
