The André Hugenet Theatre at PACOFS recently transformed into a scene of celebration as Nalane Yaka Media and Creative House NPC, in partnership with PACOFS, hosted the historic Thahabolla Setjhaba Heritage Festival 2026, themed “Honouring Our Heritage, Inspiring Future Generations Through Arts and Culture.”
This remarkable festival showcased the talents of 70 learners and youth artists from underprivileged backgrounds in the Tswelopele Local Municipality, representing four schools and two local performing organizations.
The creative host, Nalane Yaka Media and Creative House NPC, featured The Obedient Cultural Group as guest performers, alongside learners from Rainbow High School, Matimalenyora Primary School, Makgakajane Primary School, and Ntuthuzelo Primary School.
With a turnout of over 150 attendees, the festival proved to be a transformative educational initiative. Many of these learners experienced the thrill of performing on a professional stage for the first time, receiving mentorship from PACOFS’s skilled theatre practitioners in essential skills such as lighting, sound engineering, stage presence, and acting techniques.
The event was honored by the presence of Mpho Mogaesho Molete, Acting Director of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, as well as Wits Lesenyeho and the full PACOFS management and technical team, alongside the Lejweleputswa Arts and Culture Centre and esteemed visitors from the Segalo Foundation.
Mpho Mogaesho Molete delivered an insightful speech emphasizing the importance of heritage and the urgent need for funding, opportunities, and sustained support for the arts and culture sector. Wits Lesenyeho followed with a powerful keynote address on how acting and theatre can serve as tools for healing, education, and employment.
Lydia Letuka, reflecting on the impact of the event, stated, “For most of our children, this was not just a performance; it was the first time they were seen, heard, and honored on a world-class stage. We did not just awaken culture; we awakened dignity and possibility.”
