In December, the town of Dipelaneng in Hobhouse (9740) is embracing the spirit of giving in a unique way. A group of local youth has taken it upon themselves to transform their passion for music into a means of supporting families in need during the festive season.

This initiative, called the Festive Hamper Drive Est. 9740, aims to create a positive impact by turning DJ gigs into Christmas hampers.

The concept is straightforward: for every paid DJ booking secured between October and December, these young individuals will donate one full Christmas hamper to a struggling family in their community.

As one of the organizers, Lehlohonolo Nthama, stated, “We do not solicit cash donations. We hustle. We play at local events, birthdays, and celebrations, and we convert that hustle into dignity on Christmas Day.”

“Everyone is tired of being asked for money. We are not asking for money. We are asking for bookings,” Nthama added. “This restores dignity to both the giver and the receiver.”

They have also partnered with two local community organizations, which has bolstered their efforts. Their long-term vision goes beyond the current holiday season; they aspire to create a sustainable model that allows small towns to fund their festive season relief independently, without relying on outside donors. By demonstrating that entertainment and local skills can generate social impact, they hope to inspire others.

To book these talented DJs and support this initiative, community members can reach out to them directly at 061 540 7512 or 065 345 6212. This Christmas, they’re determined to bring joy and smiles to families in need, proving that local talent can make a significant difference.
