SASOLBURG — In a significant milestone for South Africa's just energy transition and provincial manufacturing revival, financial close has been reached on a R1.4 billion green hydrogen and industrial bio-refining facility to be constructed within the Sasolburg industrial complex.

The facility will transform regional agricultural biomass and captured industrial residues into high-grade chemical inputs, reducing carbon intensity while establishing the Free State as a pioneer in sustainable manufacturing technologies.

The construction phase is slated to create 650 direct artisanal and engineering jobs, with long-term partnerships established with the Free State Centre of Excellence for Technical Training to upskill local youth in solar-electrolyser maintenance and industrial automation.
