Marumo Gallants marked their fifth anniversary by embarking on a community clean-up campaign, joined by various stakeholders, including club president Dr Abram Sello and members of the Mangaung Metro Council.
In an effort to give back to the community, the club extended its celebrations by lending a helping hand. The team later joined community members at a local shopping centre in Bloemfontein, where they assisted with covering school books for learners.
Speaking on the initiative, the club president said the team chose this form of celebration to show gratitude and appreciation to the fans who continue to support the club.
The programme kicked off in the morning at Mothusi Primary School, where players and technical staff, including head coach Alexandre Lafite, were seen rolling up their sleeves during the clean-up campaign.
The school principal expressed appreciation for Mothusi Primary being selected for the celebration.
“This is a dream come true for many of our pupils. It shows them that their dreams are possible. Having a team of this magnitude here is a great motivation for our learners to see their heroes right in front of them,” he said.
Adding to the day’s jubilant celebrations, a friendly match between Marumo Gallants and Thaba Nchu Kasi World Cup Tournament champions was hosted. The match was aimed at giving upcoming talent an opportunity to rub shoulders with players they look up to. Marumo Gallants emerged victorious with a 3–1 win.
The result serves as a confidence boost ahead of their much-anticipated fixture against Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs. This comes after the Bloemfontein-based outfit recently suffered a 2–0 defeat to TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium.
Focus for Bahlabane ba Ntwa now shifts to Wednesday’s encounter against Cedric Kadzé’s Naturena pack, scheduled for the Dr Petrus Rantlai Molemela Stadium. Kick-off is at 19:30.
