A worried 33-year old mother registered a Missing Persons File at the Thabong Police Station in Welkom, following the disappearance of her baby girl ( aged one year nine months) who was kidnapped in a mall in Thabong on 6 January 2024.
According to the Police, Preliminary investigation was conducted by the SAPS together with Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit members.
A Video footage from the mall was obtained which showed a man taking a child and drove off with her in a Sedan vehicle.
The police initiated the search and visited all the gatherings of traditional healers in Thabong, until the information came about Extention 15 Hani Park Bronville.
The child was found safe and brought back to her parents on Sunday 7 January 2024.
A 45-year-old male person was arrested for kidnapping and he will appear soon in Welkom Magistrate Court.
The District Commissioner of Lejweleputswa, Maj Gen. Tholie Afonso sternly warn parents to always keep their children close to them while busy with their shopping spree and to know their whereabouts even at their homes.
