The Executive Mayor of Moqhaka Local Municipality in the Free State, Ramasimong Phohlo Tau, officially launched the newly procured municipal Yellow Fleet aimed at strengthening internal capacity and improving service delivery to communities.
The municipality said this is the municipality’s investment in its own machinery and equipment as a strategic move to reduce over-reliance on expensive external plant hire and fleet rentals.
The Yellow Fleet, which includes 1 Excavator, 2 TLBs, 2 Graders,5 Bomag Walk Behind Rollers and 1Roller Compactor will be deployed to accelerate critical service delivery .
Speaking ahead of the launch, Executive Mayor Tau said the procurement of the Yellow Fleet marks a turning point in the municipality’s efforts to become self-sufficient and financially prudent.
“For too long, the municipality has spent millions of rands on renting privately-owned machinery for basic services. This Yellow Fleet is not just about machines; it is about restoring dignity to our people by ensuring that potholes are fixed, streets are cleaned, and water and sanitation challenges are addressed timeously using our own resources. This intervention will significantly reduce fleet rental costs and ensure value for money,” said Executive.
