A joint operation led by the Hawks and the organized crime unit of the South African Police resulted in the arrest of an official from the Department of Labour at the Bloemfontein office, located in the Allied House Building, on Thursday, July 3.
The Spokesperson for the Free State Police, Motantsi Makhele, addressed the media outside the Labour Department offices, stating that this operation had been in progress for five months. Additionally, arrests were expected in Gauteng and Bethlehem as well, and not only in Bloemfontein.

Spokesperson Makhele mentioned that they anticipate arresting 20 individuals from these areas on 3 July. He explained that their visit to the Labour Department offices was due to UIF fraudulent claims amounting to millions.
One of the individuals arrested is a Labour Department official, and civilians involved are also expected to be arrested. Makhele indicated that the total amount of money involved in these fraudulent claims could reach millions.

“We expect the arrested individuals to appear in court by Monday, provided we complete our processes. Investigations into this matter are ongoing, and we anticipate further connections to other areas where additional arrests may occur,” said Makhele.
This is a developing story.
