Karabo Mphirime is a model, qualified teacher, and a recent reality show star from Thaba Nchu in the Free State. Her journey began in the humble corridors of Tlotlanang Primary School and has taken her from the world of modeling to the biggest reality TV show, and recently, into the heart of the music scene as a rising DJ.

The transition from runways to reality TV came as a surprise to her, as she had always watched Big Brother Mzansi since she was young. According to Karabo, many people told her she had the personality for it, so when the opportunity to audition arose, she seized it. She entered Big Brother during a difficult personal period, making it a perfect escape for her.

With a passion for music, Karabo decided she wanted to explore a career that aligned with her interests, so she chose to become a DJ. Those close to her know of her deep love for music, especially Afro house, Afro tech, and 3 Step genres. Iconic names like Sun-El Musician, DJ Lag, Caiiro, and SHIMZA became her daily inspiration.

Driven by curiosity about how expert DJs create different mixes, she took the opportunity to refine her skills at the Mapentane Music Academy in Gauteng, where technical skills met creative vision, transforming her childhood fascination into a tangible career path.

“I come from a family that loves music. Every time I watched my uncle use Virtual DJ to mix two songs, I was intrigued. I knew one day I’d love to be a DJ,” she shared.

Transitioning from modeling to DJing wasn’t difficult for her. She emphasizes that DJing is not just about mixing songs—it’s about knowing your unique sound and how to make people feel. Although she faced challenges, such as mastering different CDJ models and developing her own style, her hard work paid off.

To date, she has performed at multiple clubs in Gauteng, introducing sounds and beats that get the crowd moving. Fresh out of the Big Brother house, her determination drove her to pursue formal music education.

“The first thing I wanted to do was find a school where I could learn how to DJ. When I knew I had found my sound and was ready to perform, I launched it on my social media, and the bookings followed,” said Karabo.

Karabo Mphirime hasn’t abandoned modeling. While she may not walk the runway, she continues to stay stylish even when she is behind the decks.
