A new team of superheroes is inspiring children across Tweespruit, surrounding areas, and soon, the entire Free State. The Khanyi the Unique-Con Initiative, led by local nonprofit 21st Century Tech Geeks, combines storytelling, digital literacy, and anti-bullying education to empower young minds.
Khanyi, the original superhero, now joined by Ivana Lewis and Aviwe Dumayi, encourages children to embrace their uniqueness, stand against bullying, and use technology responsibly. Each digital edition of the program introduces a new storyline and superhero, keeping children engaged while teaching important life lessons.
A highlight of the initiative is the monthly competition, where children aged 6–12 can submit their own superhero stories. The winning story is featured in the Khanyi the Unique-Con Digital Comic Series, giving young creators the exciting opportunity to see their ideas come to life online.
The initiative also plans to work closely with Early Childhood Development (ECD) centers, helping younger children develop digital skills, creativity, and confidence from an early age.
Mamontsheng Portia Moleme, chairperson of 21st Century Tech Geeks, explained that the initiative plans to expand to other provinces, reaching children across South Africa. “Through Khanyi, Ivana, and Aviwe, we want children everywhere to see that they can be heroes in their own lives,” she said.
Since its launch, the initiative has received praise for its innovative approach, combining technology education with creativity, moral lessons, and community engagement. Local educators and parents are recognizing the program’s positive impact on children’s social and digital development.
