The much-anticipated 2nd Annual Free State Veterans Poetry Festival is set to take place from 20-23 September at the Civic Theatre in Bloemfontein, Free State.
The FS Veterans Poetry Festival will host a prestigious Gala Dinner–Honouring Fallen Legends at the Bon Hotel, Bloemfontein, as a heartfelt tribute to Free State poets who have passed away.
This event personifies the belief that no one is truly self-made; every powerful artist was inspired and mentored by another special spirit. The Free State Veterans Night will celebrate and show appreciation to the heroes and sheroes of the arts, as well as their families, reminding them that they are held dearly in people’s hearts.
The gala will bring together poets, family members of fallen poets, literary enthusiasts, and community members to celebrate the lives and legacies of these literary giants. The evening will feature touching tributes, powerful recitals, and moments of reflection designed to preserve and honour the voices that shaped the Free State poetry landscape.
“This event is more than a dinner – it’s a poetic ceremony of memory and gratitude. We gather not to mourn, but to immortalize the spirit of our fallen legends through spoken word, and to take the baton from them to promote reading and writing in the Free State and beyond,” said the FS Veterans Poetry Festival organizing team.
The celebration forms part of the FS Veterans Poetry Festival’s broader mission to keep poetry alive in the province while acknowledging the cultural contributions of poets who paved the way for future generations.
