Born and raised in Sasolburg, Molawa Innocent Mohlakane has made a name for himself as a Djembe drum master, showcasing his incredible talent throughout the Free State. Known for his ability to transport audiences through the magic of his drumming, Molawa has been an active force in the entertainment industry for over 30 years.

Self-taught, Molawa began his Djembe journey in 1995, honing his craft and developing a unique style that draws from his family’s rich sporting and artistic background. “Djembe is a God-given gift,” he shares, crediting his parents for inspiring his passion for music.

Molawa is set to perform at the Free State Veterans Poetry Night, where he will serve as a percussionist for various poets and storytellers. Attendees can expect an intricately woven performance that promises both healing and entertainment on September 23rd. “I feel blessed to be called to deliver,” he emphasized, as he collaborates with veterans and upcoming artists during rehearsals.

With excitement in his voice, Molawa expressed his eagerness to showcase some drumming stunts during the event. “If you stop the drum, you pause the heartbeat of Africa. I look forward to healing people through rhythm,” he said, highlighting the deep cultural significance of his art.

Prepare for an evening filled with vibrant beats and moving performances that celebrate the power of art and community.
