Hard work and dedication pay off, and Siphiwe Sesing from Thaba Nchu is a prime example of this. He is set to release a sizzling EP titled “The Chronic Effect,” which will be distributed by the iconic South African brand, Soul Candi.

Soul Candi is a well-established name in the local music landscape, and its reputation speaks for itself. Born on October 15, Siphiwe, who goes by the stage name SWVRE (pronounced Sware), describes himself as a melomaniac—someone who loves music—curious, and detail-oriented.

While he has made a name for himself as a producer, he is also a student at the Central University of Technology (CUT), studying Electrical Technology in Electrical Engineering.

When asked about his stage name, Siphiwe explained, “Sware was given to me by my high school mates. I really don’t know what the motive behind it was, but I accepted it anyway.” He shared that the name is South African slang for “brother-in-law.”

Siphiwe’s journey began with his love for computers and video games. When his brother went to study abroad in 2012, he left Siphiwe with his PC and all its applications. This sparked Siphiwe’s interest. It wasn’t until after completing his matric that he decided to explore music production by watching YouTube tutorials and experimenting with FL Studio after seeing friends use the software.

He quickly fell in love with it and began creating his unique sound, which is gaining popularity. Between 2018 and 2019, Siphiwe started posting snippets of his songs online, attracting the attention of people and record labels who encouraged him to release his music.

“I was very doubtful of my work. I felt like the quality of my sounds was and still is not where I want it to be,” he acknowledged.

Siphiwe credits his brother, who also acts as his manager, for being a significant influence on his musical and academic journey, serving as his biggest inspiration. He grew up listening to renowned deep house artists such as At Jazz, Stimming, Jullian Gomes, Chymamusique, Duke Soul, and Da Capo, which shaped his sound.

“As a producer, I don’t limit myself to one genre. I get bored using the same sound repeatedly, so I always experiment with whatever I feel comfortable making. It could be Amapiano, Lofi, or Hip Hop music— it really depends on my mood,” he shared.

For Siphiwe, the best thing about being a musician is the opportunity to work, network, and connect with other artists. He is set to release his much anticipated debut EP in November.
