Charmaine Mrwebi is a prominent figure in the literary world, steadily making her mark as a respected author, publisher, and literary powerhouse. Her dedication and hard work in the field have earned her recognition for the Free State World Special Awards.
As a publisher of 20 books and the founder of Charmza Literary Club (CLC), Charmaine has been instrumental in supporting emerging authors for the past decade. Although CLC started informally, it was officially registered in 2021 and has since catered to budding authors, established writers, poets, publishers, booksellers, and graphic designers across the Free State province.
Under her leadership, CLC hosts various literary programs within local schools, fostering a culture of reading and writing. Monthly read-aloud sessions and reading competitions are just a few initiatives that encourage student engagement. Additionally, she organizes poetry productions in theaters and school halls, coordinates book launches, and exhibits works from first-time authors, further promoting local literature.
Beyond publishing, Charmaine has proudly published over 100 titles for first-time authors, making their dreams of becoming published writers a reality. Her passion extends to organizing renowned festivals such as the Thaba Nchu Book Festival and the Free State Veterans Festival, while also conducting workshops that promote reading, writing, and creative learning through puppetry.
Charmaine’s commitment to nurturing future generations is evident in her ongoing visits to schools across the Free State, where she teaches and promotes literacy. Her dedication has even led her to secure an international tour in 2024, where she showcased her work at an international book fair.
