Hailing from Wepener, a small town in the Free State, Samuel Mono, known as Sir Zito, has not let his humble beginnings deter him from achieving his musical dreams.
As a self-taught music producer and DJ, he has carved out a niche in the South African music scene since fully embracing his passion in 2015. Inspired by Prince Kaybee’s victory on SABC 1’s Master of Spin Competition, Sir Zito decided to pursue music as a serious career.
His talent has not gone unnoticed, as he is currently nominated for several accolades at the upcoming 2025 Central Music Awards, including Best Collaboration of the Year, Best Club DJ of the Year, and Best Song of the Year.
Recently, he released a new track featuring Toolkit, Faith Strings, and Deekay Afro that showcases his distinctive Free Strata sound. Growing up, Sir Zito was influenced by iconic artists such as Chiskop, Arthur Mafokate, and DJ Cleo, which helped shape his unique musical style.
“The genre I’m doing gives me the freedom to align my intellectual production into my own signature,” he remarked, reflecting on his artistic journey.
His music has received significant airplay, particularly on SABC radio stations, where it is often featured in high rotation. In 2022, he was honoured as the Artist of the Year on SABC’s Sesotho broadcasting radio station.
His song “Jabula,” a collaboration with C.Lab, Snayper, and Browdy Brave, has been nominated for Best Song of the Year and Best Collaboration of the Year at the 2025 Central Music Awards.
In addition to his music career, Zito also manages artist Deekay Afro, the hitmaker behind “Zaba Pepa.” He credits the Welkom duo, 2 Point 1, as a significant inspiration for his continued pursuit of music. Beyond his musical endeavors, Zito is dedicated to education and tutors mathematics.
