Martha Malefane, a 67-year-old from N8 Park in Botshabelo, is urgently seeking help as she faces severe abuse from her 34-year-old son, who has been struggling with drug addiction since 2019. The situation has escalated to the point where Martha has fled her home due to her son’s violent behavior and the theft of her money and belongings to support his habit.

She describes a distressing environment where her son and his girlfriend regularly use drugs in her house, leading to chaotic and dangerous confrontations between them. Martha is particularly heartbroken as her son, who is academically gifted, continues to waste his potential despite being pursued by the National Student Aid Fund (NSFAS) for funding opportunities.

Martha fears for her life, explaining that her son’s erratic behavior and the violent disputes with his girlfriend make her feel unsafe in her own home.

“He has sold my furniture and anything he can find to feed his addiction,” she lamented, wishing for intervention that would send them to rehabilitation and restore peace to her life.

Overwhelmed by stress, Martha is pleading for assistance, as her health is deteriorating under the weight of her son’s actions and the fear she now lives with. She longs for the simple comfort of a peaceful home and questions why her son, despite his intelligence, has fallen into such darkness.

“He has a girlfriend and they frequently fight, stabbing each other. The girlfriend also smokes drugs, and they have no control; they can’t be reprimanded, and I decided to leave my house. Wish they could be taken to a rehab to get help.” Said Martha.

She fears for her life, saying she is fearful that her son might do something to her if he doesn’t receive help soon.

Martha’s story highlights the urgent need for support for families dealing with addiction, emphasizing the toll it takes not only on the individuals struggling with drugs but also on their loved ones.
