Christmas Day will be a day to remember for house-owners who received newly built houses. Human Settlement MEC, Saki Mokoena, handed over ten (10) houses on Christmas Day in Bakenpark, Extension 5, in Bethlehem, Free State. The handing over of the houses was a gesture embodied by the spirit of giving that is encouraged during the Festive Season.
One of the elderly beneficiaries identified for this purpose is 83-year-old Litsiki Tello Alfred, who stayed in dire conditions and was finally ushered into his newly built BNG (Breaking New Ground) house.

The handing of houses project is a work in progress and consists of 180 units that are anticipated to be completed by late 2026. The Free State Department of Human Settlements recently launched a Catalytic Housing Project located in Bethlehem. This project’s financial projection is approximately R370 million, expected to yield 1248 housing units encompassing the following programmes: First Home Finance, Breaking New Grounds, and Social housing.

This project aims to accelerate housing delivery, spatial planning transformation, and inclusive economic growth. MEC Mokoena reiterated that public servants have to work around the clock, irrespective of the circumstances, as they are there to serve the public.
