Mr *X (not his real name, name withheld), who was approached to invest in the Senekal/Matwabeng 1st Annual Homecoming “Soul Sessions meet House Sessions”, wants his money back that he paid. The Homecoming event was held on 27 December in Senekal, Free State.
According to Mr X, he alleged that he was approached to be part of the event, which allegedly needed financial support, and after joining the team, a contract (which was actually a Memorandum of Understanding) was issued to him, which he allegedly didn’t sign.
According to Mr X, the agreement was that they had to contribute R5000 for the event, and payment had to be made directly to service providers for the event.
Mr X said he paid R2000 on 8 October to a banking account that was provided to him. A proof of payment was supplied to Free State World by Mr X showing a R2000 payment made to an Absa-linked bank account.

Mr X alleged that an agreement to open a bank account for the event never materialised, and decisions were allegedly made without him, but only instructions were issued, and after not being happy with how things were done, he decided to pull out as an investor.
“I told them I was leaving, and on 2 November, I made a follow-up on when to get my money and was told that a contract won’t be breached and any first person who will pay will be directed to pay me as the was no money on hold to pay me.” Said Mr X.
He further alleges that he has been waiting for payment, and on 9 December, he made another follow-up with Kenny Motai, one of the organisers of the event, who allegedly promised Mr X that he would be paid on 19 December, which never materialised, and even on 22 December, he made a follow-up.

“Up to date, I am still waiting for my R2000.” Mr X explained.
Kenny Motai said according to their contract, anyone who decides to pull out will be paid on the event date or after the event. Motai added that he told Mr X that if he personally had money, he would refund him from his own pocket even though it was not part of the contract.
“He was an investor, we have spoken that on event day, he will get his money or the day after. We agreed on that, we sent them contracts so that they can sign, and we sign.” Said Motai.
However, Mr X said he never signed a contract nor sent a signed one to organisers.
“Our contract says he will get his money after event day,” Motai added.
