What started as a small dream in 2016 has grown into a resilient and expanding business for Refiloe Faith Khumisi, a 35-year-old entrepreneur and mother of two from Bloemfontein.
Refiloe is the founder of Refiloe’s Kitchen and Catering Services, a business she established on 14 June 2016. As the company approaches its 10-year milestone this year, she reflects on a journey marked by perseverance, passion, and determination.
“I love what I do. Waking up every day to cook and bake is such a blessing to me,” she said.

Refiloe’s Kitchen and Catering Services provides catering for a wide range of occasions, including parties, baby showers, tombstone unveilings, funerals, as well as services for both private and government sectors.
In addition to catering, Refiloe has expanded her business by opening two shops/restaurants this year. One is located in Rocklands Phahameng near Lekgulong High School, while the other operates at the University of the Free State Bloemfontein Campus, Madelief House. The outlets offer daily meals, as well as essential goods and toiletries to the local community.

Known for her love of cooking, baking, and fashion, Refiloe describes herself as a hardworking individual who refuses to give up, even during difficult times.“Running a business is not easy, especially when you start alone without funding. Some days there is no business, and some days there is. You just have to accept each day and keep planning new ways to bring in income,” she explained.

Currently, the business employs three people, including Refiloe herself. However, she has bigger ambitions for the future.
” I’m looking at opening more shops and restaurants to create employment for the youth,” she said.
Despite the challenges she has faced over the years, Khumisi remains focused on her vision and committed to growing her business.
“As we turn 10 years in June, we are not yet where we want to be, but I believe one day I will look back and smile at how far we have come,” she said.

Describing herself as “just a Bloem girl” striving for a better future, Refiloe draws strength from her faith and determination.
“I wake up every day trying to make a better life, believing that one day I will succeed. With God, all things are possible.”
As she celebrates a decade in business, Refiloe’s story stands as a testament to resilience, passion, and the power of never giving up.
