Puleng Motlodi

The family of the late Puleng Magdeline Motlodi, affectionately known as Sesi, continues to seek justice almost a year after her remains were discovered in a pit toilet in Zone 5, Thaba Nchu, on 20 May 2025. The delay in receiving DNA results has prevented them from burying her remains, causing immense anguish.

Sesi’s guardian, Baleseng Matlakala, shared the family’s distress, recalling how they reported her missing when she failed to return home. Following the discovery of her remains, they have been left in limbo, unable to proceed with her burial. Baleseng explained to Free State World that the case was struck off the roll due to insufficient evidence, despite the alleged killers showing authorities where they dumped her body.

“We are still waiting for the DNA results. The delay is causing us great pain. We want closure and to lay our loved one to rest,” Baleseng emphasized, her sorrow evident. She revealed that the case had been heard four times at the Thaba Nchu Magistrates’ Court before being dismissed when the evidence proved insufficient.

Initially, three suspects were arrested, but one was released due to a lack of evidence linking him to the crime. The other two were also released when the case was struck off the roll in late 2025. Since then, there has been silence regarding the case, which has only compounded the family’s distress.

Baleseng recounted that the investigating officer received initial DNA results that were inconclusive and did not confirm whether the remains belonged to Sesi. Another set of DNA results was requested, but the wait has been prolonged.

“It was supposed to be a quick process, but we are still waiting for the confirmation. We simply want to bury our loved one,” she said.

Baleseng expressed hope that once they receive the awaited DNA confirmation, they will find closure. More importantly, she desires justice for Sesi and clarity on the circumstances of her death.

“Every day that passes without being able to lay her to rest breaks our hearts further. No parent should endure this kind of pain and uncertainty,” she lamented.
