Award-winning Amapiano artist, Rebatone (real name Rebaone Lesimola) from Thaba-Nchu has carved a unique path in South Africa’s vibrant music scene. His deep connection to jazz, a foundation rooted in Amapiano, introduced him to embrace the genre, mixing piano melodies and rhythmic basslines with house music to create a sound both fresh and culturally resonant.
Winning the Best Amapiano Artist of the Year at the Central Music Awards, which took place recently in Bloemfontein, crowned a decade of dedication to dance music. Rebatone describes this achievement as a result of hard work and a reward for persistence. His music, carrying messages of love, purpose, and happiness, draws inspiration from leading figures such as Gaba Canal, Kabza De Small, and Kelvin Momo, each of whom encourages the artist to push creative boundaries.

Despite the crowded and competitive Amapiano scene, which is challenging for artists from regions outside major provinces like Gauteng, he remains motivated by his lifelong passion for music and his instrumental skills on bass guitar and piano.
Winning the award has broadened Reba’s craft and sparked a drive to work harder. He hopes to inspire young, upcoming Amapiano artists to embrace being unique.
Rebatone is due to release a joint EP titled “Thaba Nchu” in collaboration with Star Kruss, scheduled for 28 November. He also envisions breaking into the international market within five years.
