A Bloemfontein-based entrepreneur, Nicolase Lesapo, has developed a new mobile application aimed at restoring trust and transparency within stokvel groups across South Africa and Lesotho. The innovative platform, called the Stockvel Management App, promises to transform how stokvels are managed and monitored.
For decades, stokvels — a popular savings system used by millions — have faced challenges of mistrust, poor record keeping, and financial mismanagement. Lesapo says he was inspired to create the app after witnessing how these issues broke down community confidence.
“People were scared to join stokvels because money often went missing without explanation,” said Lesapo. “Some members would claim the books got wet or that funds were borrowed twice but only recorded once. This app ensures that every cent is accounted for and visible to all members.”

The Stockvel Management App features real-time tracking, automated record keeping, and a secure communication system that allows members to manage their stokvel digitally — reducing confusion and creating clear accountability.
Another unique feature allows different stokvels to collaborate and buy in bulk, helping members benefit from discounts while maintaining separate records. Importantly, Lesapo emphasized that the app does not handle money directly, but rather manages the administrative side to ensure safety and trust.
The app is currently available for testing and learning, and will soon be available on the Google Play Store.
