Busisiwe “Busi” Booi is dedicated to making dreams come true and helping learners excel in their studies. Based in Bloemfontein, Busi is the owner of Busi Tutoring in Rockland and is passionate about education, particularly assisting learners who struggle with their schoolwork.
She has devoted her time and life to ensuring good academic results for her students. Busi entered the tutoring business out of a love for community development. Given the high unemployment rate in South Africa, she sought to use her skills and knowledge to support her family.
Growing up, Busi always considered herself a leader, and playing school with her peers was one of her favorite activities. She credits her family for recognizing her teaching gift even before she did and encouraging her to pursue it.

Her grandmother would often ask her to read letters aloud, calling her “teacher,” which boosted Busi’s confidence. Her grandmother also made sure that others knew about Busi’s reading ability.
“Teaching, for me, is both a gift and a calling. No matter what other career paths I pursue, I always find myself teaching others,” Busi stated.
Busi Tutoring supports learners in grades 1-7 and 8-12. She offers services such as matric rewrites, homework assistance, matric rewrite tutorial classes, Saturday classes, school holiday tutorials, literacy and numeracy tutorials, online tutorials, and exam preparation classes.
“What I love about this business is that I am doing what I am passionate about and skilled at. I enjoy managing myself and setting goals that contribute to my personal development, vision, and dreams. I also appreciate the opportunity to explore various learning methods and facilitation skills,” Busi explained.

She emphasizes the importance of discipline, commitment, and excellence in growing her brand. Busi believes that the tutoring business has taught her valuable lessons about ethics, morals, and integrity, highlighting the necessity of behaving appropriately while protecting and respecting her brand.
Additionally, Busi has become aware of the opportunities available in the tutoring sector and how to capitalize on them. However, she faces challenges, particularly when schools close in December and during the first term of the new school year, which impacts her financial stability.
Another challenge is when parents do not keep their children consistently enrolled in the tutoring program, which affects her monthly income. Busi currently employs five people in her business and hopes to hire more in the future.

“My emotional and intellectual skills have improved significantly as I work with different people daily, allowing me to manage and engage with them effectively. My interpersonal and communication skills have also developed greatly. Having a stable income is a privilege given the current state of our country,” Busi stated.
