Promising Botshabelo theatre actress Disemelo Gertrude Thotela recently received the Best Lead Actress award at the Yarona Youth Festival, an incubator program of Pacofs.
Disemelo starred in “Blood Sister,” a production directed by Dyke Leballo. This recognition is significant for her, as it not only validates her potential but also reignites her passion for acting. The Botshabelo-based actress expressed that she has been acting her entire life. What started as a hobby turned into a serious pursuit after others recognized her talent and enthusiasm for the craft.
While in Grade 12, Disemelo’s siblings introduced her to a local drama group that nurtured her skills, exposed her to various artistic styles, and enhanced her versatility. In 2023, she was introduced to Lebohang Moroe, the director of “Fazikana Musical,” where she gained additional experience.
She credits Mpho Mothibi for connecting her with Lebohang. Disemelo has performed on major theatre stages such as Bapala Theatre, Mmabana Theatre, JPAC Theatre, and Musicon.
With six years of experience as a theatre actress, Disemelo continues to hone her talent. She aims to work hard and establish herself among the best in the field.
