On 24 July, South Africa received the sad news of the untimely death of Sesotho hip-hop superstar Malome Vector (Bokang Moleli), who lost his life in a fatal car accident on the N1 Road near Koppies.
Malome Vector and four others were traveling from the Gauteng side of the N1 towards Bloemfontein, as confirmed by the Free State Health Department.
Their car collided with a truck, resulting in the loss of their lives. Two people were taken to the hospital, while three died at the scene, including Malome Vector.
The rapper’s death has deeply saddened 19-year-old Bloemfontein visual artist Kamohelo Hlobelo, who had hoped to meet the rapper and personally present a portrait he had created. Hlobela had made a portrait of Malome Vector last October, which took him three days to complete.
He had hoped to deliver it to Malome Vector at the Lemo Fest where the rapper was scheduled to appear, but Vector didn’t make it. Hlobela contacted Malome Vector on Facebook, showed him the portrait, and Vector asked for Hlobela’s location so they could meet.
Hlobelo had hoped to meet him when he performed in Bloemfontein. The Petunia High School matriculant expressed that Malome Vector’s death deprived him of the opportunity to meet the hitmaker in person and show his appreciation for his talent in real time.
However, Hlobelo has contacted a close friend of Malome Vector who was working with him, and they are arranging to meet in order to deliver the portrait to Malome Vector’s family.
“Malome Vector gave us many hits. I’m saddened that I couldn’t meet him in person to show my appreciation for his talent. I hope this artwork will portray how much I appreciated his talent,” said Hlobelo.
