Ntibi Tsunke, better known as Henecbeatz or simply Henec, hails from Kroonstad in the Free State and has made a name for himself as a legendary hip hop producer. At 36 years old, he reflects on his journey that began after matriculating in 2008. Interestingly enough, Henec was not initially drawn to music production; he started as a rapper who depended on his younger brother for beats. But when his brother shifted focus to deep house production, Henec took the initiative to learn the fundamentals of music production himself.
Over the years, Henec established himself in the hip hop scene, collaborating with numerous artists from Kroonstad. He launched SoulK Production, bringing together a team of talented artists and operating directly from his home studio.
Despite facing challenges, particularly due to the country’s economic circumstances, music has been his beacon of hope and motivation.
One of Henec’s frustrations as a producer is the disloyalty he encounters from some artists. He has invested significant time and energy into nurturing artists, only to see them leave his studio after years of collaboration. This disappointment hasn’t deterred him; rather, it has fueled his passion for creating music.
Recently, Henec decided to branch out and experiment with dance sounds, aiming to blend Amapiano, 3 step, Lekompo, and Free Strata influences into a distinctive style. He has plans to release an EP during the festive season, collaborating with his team of artists and his long-time production partner, keyboardist Seun Lebina.
Henec has developed a signature sound, and his unique phrase “Henec You Are So Bad” resonates throughout all of his productions. On October 3rd, he dropped his latest single “All The Way,” featuring his long-time artist Princess Kasumi and Kroonstad melodic sensation, Mr Flow Khulumthii. This upbeat, vibrant track is sure to fill dance floors across the nation.
