Following the aftermath of the destructive storm that struck Matlwangtlwang on 2 December 2023, 46 affected families received aid in the form of building materials to rebuild their homes and lives.
The storm destroyed about 265 houses leaving some families homeless and unable to rebuild their homes.
The Moqhaka Local Municipality Disaster Management Centre, working in partnership with the Provincial and National Departments of Human Settlement donated 16 IBR Zincs, 6 Gum Poles, 1 Aluminium window, 1 Door, 4 Packs of Nails, 1 Padlock, 6 Rafters, and timber frames.
This is the first phase of aid to the affected families aimed at helping them start afresh after some lost their furniture and building materials due to the storm.
The Moqhaka Local Municipality expressed their gratitude to those who assisted, including the residents of Matlwangtlwang, for their collective efforts in helping those affected after the disaster struck.
According to the Moqhaka Municipality, the second phase will accommodate more people affected by the disaster.
