Nurses at Moroka Hospital celebrated International Nurses Day on May 30 at the hospital in Thaba Nchu. Although International Nurses Day is traditionally celebrated on 12 May, the hospital chose to commemorate it on May 30.
The event recognized the hard work and vital role of nurses in saving lives while also motivating them with awards, trophies, and certificates. Cecilia Moalusi, an Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner at the hospital, explained her responsibility for the well-being of the employees. She emphasized that if employees are not well cared for, their productivity decreases, affecting patient care and overall job satisfaction.

Moalusi highlighted the importance of uplifting nurses’ morale, stating that it leads to higher quality care for patients and encourages nurses to perform their duties with excellence.
“As nurses, we celebrate this day because we have committed ourselves to this profession. It is a calling, and we strive to do our best, with our patients as our top priority. We are here to celebrate our passion for caring for our patients,” she said.

She further explained that by celebrating International Nurses Day, they revitalize their spirit as nurses, motivate each other, and remind themselves of their chosen profession.
Regarding the awards presented to nurses for excellence, Moalusi emphasized that these accolades serve to motivate and remind nurses of their purpose, instilling pride in their profession and reinforcing the idea that patients come first in their lives.
