1976 Films is excited to present the breathtaking and educational film “Girl Taken,” which will be screened at the Waaihoek Wesleyan Church, known as the birthplace of the ANC in Bloemfontein. The goal of 1976 Films is to make watching films fashionable, to increase interest, to educate, and to spark conversations.

“Girl Taken” was part of the Encounters Film Festival Selection in 2022 and was featured at the 34th Galway Film Fleadh, where it received recognition. It was also screened at the Durban International Film Festival in 2022. Admission to the screening is completely FREE, and it will begin at 14:00 on July 26, 2025.

Audience members will not only enjoy the film but will also have the opportunity to engage with the film’s director in a question-and-answer session. This will be a chance to learn more about the film, its inspiration, and what to expect from the director. This film screening is made possible by 1976 Films in partnership with the NFVF and PESP 5.

“Girl Taken” tells the story of a baby girl who is stolen from her mother’s hospital bedside just three days after birth. Seventeen years later, the girl is reunited with her biological family when a second daughter of the mother enrolls at a new school and befriends her. Through DNA testing, the girls are confirmed to be sisters, leading to an emotional reconciliation filled with tears of joy and happiness.

“Films educate, create interest, and get people talking. Their storylines reflect our daily lives and teach us more about life, ourselves, and how to coexist with others. Everyone is welcome to come watch ‘Girl Taken’ for free and engage in conversation with the film’s director,” said Mpho Tau from 1976 Films.
