The Free State Department of Community Safety, Roads and Transport, officially handed over a fleet of vehicles valued at R29,990 million, aimed at strengthening service delivery across key provincial departments.

The handover of the vehicles took place at the Government Garage in Bloemfontein on Monday, 15 December. The vehicle handover forms part of the Free State government’s ongoing commitment to improving road safety, emergency response, and community support services throughout the Free State.

The vehicle handover included 15 Traffic and Road Safety vehicles, consisting of 10 Volkswagen Polo sedans and five GWM (Great Wall Motors) double-cab pick-ups. Two of the GWM double-cab vehicles will be deployed to Traffic Management operations along the N3 corridor, while the remaining three will support road safety awareness and outreach programs.

Ten pathology vehicles, in the form of four-bed mortuary vans, were allocated to the Department of Health to strengthen emergency medical and forensic responses, while a further 35 GWM double-cab pick-ups will be handed over to the Department of Social Development to support community-based service delivery initiatives.

“This investment reflects our determination to ensure safer roads, quicker emergency responses, and improved support to our communities. These vehicles will enable our departments to deliver services where they are needed most,” said MEC Jabu Mbalula, the MEC for the Free State Department of Community Safety, Roads and Transport.
