The Free State Legislature has embarked on a back-to-school campaign and has identified education as a critical pillar for provincial development and a necessary tool to change the socio-economic conditions of learners in the province.

From 20-23 January, the Free State Legislature and its members will be conducting oversight visits to schools in the province. Areas that members of the Free State Legislature will visit include Virginia, Bethulie, Gariep, Bothabong, Bronville, Qwaqwa, Botshabelo, Thaba Nchu, Dealesville, Parys, and Kestel.

The members will meet the school’s principals to monitor the registration of learners,  readiness of the school for the academic year ahead, challenges the school experienced, and other matters relevant to learning and teaching.

According to Section 114 (2) of the Republic of South Africa, the Provincial Legislature provides mechanisms to ensure that all departments and provincial organs of state are accountable to it and conduct oversight.
