The Free State Provincial Legislature is gearing up to host a successful State of the Province Address (SOPA) in 2026. This significant event is designed for the Premier to highlight the performance of the provincial government during the 2025-26 financial year, as well as to outline policy priorities, legislative programs, and service delivery commitments for the upcoming financial year of 2026/2027.
SOPA serves as a vital tool for executive accountability, allowing Members of the Legislature, media, and the public to evaluate the government’s performance in relation to its constitutional obligations and policy objectives.
Scheduled to take place at the Old Greys Sports Ground in Bloemfontein, SOPA 2026 expects around 1,200 guests, while the venue can accommodate up to 5,000 attendees. Among those present will be 30 members of the provincial legislature, six NCOP permanent delegates, 50 media representatives, and 450 staff members, including the security cluster.
Deputy Speaker Nolitha Ndungane has expressed confidence that the venue’s capacity will allow for all expected attendees. Following the official proceedings, there will be performances and a luncheon from 6 AM to 10 PM. To facilitate the event, Parkroad, Partiff Avenue, and Ehrlich Streets will be closed and will reopen after 10 AM.
