Now firmly based in Bloemfontein, 24-year-old Tshepo Maoto, widely known as Teddy The MC, is fast becoming one of the most recognisable voices in the city’s entertainment scene.
Although originally from Lesotho, Teddy has built his career and brand in Bloemfontein, where he continues to energise stages across the province. From music gigs to corporate functions, his commanding presence and ability to ignite a crowd have made him a sought-after Master of Ceremonies within the Free State creative circuit.
His journey began in 2016 at a high school talent show, where he volunteered behind the microphone. The overwhelming response from the crowd and teachers marked the beginning of what would become a growing career in live entertainment.
“I realised I was really getting good at it,” he recalls.
Through experience, including a demanding solo gig that lasted an entire day without backup, Teddy learned to generate energy rather than depend on it. Teddy has been part of major regional events such as the Blackdoor Experience, Farmers Market, Fillip Toyota Stadium, Matjabeng Spring/Summer Blow, Bloem Show, and Macufe, Lemo Fest.
For Teddy, mastering the room is just as important as mastering the microphone. Whether engaging amapiano fans or addressing formal audiences, he adapts his delivery while maintaining his signature stage authority.
“The party won’t start without me,” he says, a statement that reflects preparation and confidence rather than ego.
Even when faced with technical challenges, he remains composed, using quick humor or interactive chants to maintain momentum. His professionalism and ability to command attention continue to solidify his growing influence in Bloemfontein’s entertainment landscape.
