Koffiefontein budding hip-hop artist, CliQ Ghost, whose real name is Michael Motlatsi Lesabe, has shown that music is in his DNA.
Born and raised in Koffiefontein, a small mining town in the Free State, Ghost’s journey begins where dreams often seem distant. Growing up in this environment instilled in him resilience, unity, and the ability to transform struggles into lyrical bars.
Life in Koffiefontein has never been easy, and according to Ghost, many do not expect a rapper to emerge from such a town. This perception motivated him to write music that reflects both his experiences and those of others in similar situations.
Influenced by the likes of 2Pac Shakur, Papoose, J. Cole, and 50 Cent, Ghost studied how these artists turned their pain and pride into powerful anthems. For him, music became a voice for those who feel overlooked in smaller towns across the Free State.

“I started recording in 2009, during my teens. I used whatever I could find. No fancy studios initially, just a mic, a laptop, and many late-night sessions. The themes in my music resonate from my home — hustle, faith, family, and proving that talent isn’t restricted by your postal code,” he shared.
Ghost’s sound combines gritty hip-hop with uplifting messages, discussing real-life issues, hustle, setbacks, and victories. He aims to inspire motivation in his listeners.
He has collaborated with Matrix_Boi, an artist from Nigeria, who challenged him to refine his writing and demonstrated that his voice could reach audiences beyond Koffiefontein.
Currently, he is expanding his catalog, releasing music on various platforms such as Reverbnation, Audiomack, and YouTube.

Performing mostly for local crowds, he approaches every show as if it were his last, pouring his heart into every performance and ensuring that audiences remember his name.
Ghost’s aspiration is to put his hometown on the map and inspire the youth to pursue their dreams.
“Right now, I’m working on my new mixtape titled ‘ONE Verse Many Beats,’ which focuses on telling deeper stories from the Free State and connecting with more artists across Africa and beyond. My goal is to build a career that my town can be proud of and to prove that you can succeed from anywhere if you remain true to yourself and work hard,” Ghost added.
