In an era dominated by digital trends, the Free State Writers Forum (FSWF) is turning back to its roots. The forum has unveiled a prestigious collection that places the province’s living legends at the forefront of a new literary movement.

The 2026 showcase features stunning works of matriarchs and patriarchs who have spent decades documenting Sesotho and English heritage. These authors, many of whom have previously struggled to find professional platforms, are now being presented with a unified global standard branding.

“This is about dignity and unity. By professionalizing the presentation of our storytellers, we ensure that their wisdom becomes a pillar for the future,” Said the forum’s Secretariat.

According to the Forum, the project was designed to create an accessible platform where local writers can be seen, heard, and celebrated.

“This catalogue is more than a collection of texts; it is a testament to the resilience, imagination, and cultural richness of our province,” a representative of the Free State Writers Forum said.

The heritage section of the catalogue acts as a bilingual bridge, ensuring that the indigenous languages of the Free State are preserved and promoted. Writers from across the Free State’s five districts contributed a wide range of content. Some offered heartfelt accounts of their writing journeys, detailing the challenges and triumphs they encountered along the way. Others submitted messages marking World Book Day, reflecting on the importance of literature in fostering connection, education, and identity.

The initiative also highlights the Forum’s commitment to nurturing a culture of reading and writing within the province. By digitizing the catalogue, the organization ensures that these stories can reach broader audiences, both locally and beyond provincial borders.
