Boitumelo Mokhothu from Welkom is on a mission to change how people perceive ECDs and highlight their significance in both community and child development. On Friday, 26 June, Boitumelo, along with the Matrons in Thabong, Welkom, in the Free State, organized an ECD outreach aimed at emphasizing the importance of enrolling children in daycare centers.
The outreach played a crucial role in educating parents about the benefits of enrolling their children at these centers at an early age. The Department of Education also expressed concern over the number of children who have yet to be enrolled in ECD programs.
Boitumelo stressed that through this outreach, the Department of Education aims to assess the number of children in Matjhabeng and surrounding areas who are not attending ECD centers.
The outreach focused on listening to the parents’ concerns and understanding the barriers preventing them from enrolling their children in ECD programs, notably highlighting financial challenges that make it difficult for some families to afford the fees.
