Bongani "Basta" Bob
The family of the late Bongani “Basta” Bob from JB Mafora in Bloemfontein who was found dead last year is seeking justice for him.
A source said since Basta was murdered last year, his killers have not been found and are roaming free. Its alleged that he was killed after receiving R1.4million road accident fund money.
According to sources who were close to the late Basta, he was involved in a car accident in October 2022, and received his road accident fund money between January and February 2025.
Its alleged that everyone in his neighbourhood knew about the money as he didn’t keep it a secret.

He was last seen on 24 March 2025 by those close to him. Its alleged that a car followed him, tracing his steps the whole day. Its further alleged that Basta got a call from his friends, telling him to stay put as they would be picking him up.
A source who was close to Basta said a family member wanted to leave with Basta but he allegedly refused to tag him along and left with his friends. That was the last day Basta was seen alive.
“He went with his friends on that day and he never came back home, later that week, there were transactions made through his card . The kidnapper’s went to the bank and tried to cancel his investments through a letter and that’s how the bank noticed that Basta might be in danger. The bank called the police to go to Basta’s house to check if he’s okay.”
“The time the police got there, they found his mother and the younger brother, and then they asked about Basta, the family told the cops that it has been three weeks since they’ve last seen Bongani.” Said the source.
A missing person case for Basta was opened. The source stated that while the police were out patrolling at Bloemspruit. They allegedly witnessed some people digging a hole and when they saw the police, they sped off in a car.

Its alleged that on 6 April 2025, A guard discovered a dead body, some distance from where the hole was dug. The body was clad in the same clothes Basta was seen wearing and looked tortured.
Basta’s money was stolen. He was laid to rest on 18 May 2026. Those who were close to Basta are now seeking for justice as no arrests have been made and his case is moving at a snail’s pace. The family also want closure.
“It hurts everyday. We also don’t know who killed him. The fact that his mom is sick and has a hope that one-day her son will come back is painful because we know that he is not going to come back. They change the detectives but still there’s no progress on the case, yet cases that came after his have been resolved.” Said someone who was close to Basta.
