The Chronicles of Kabinete, a Sesotho crime drama produced in Ladybrand, delves into themes of loyalty, betrayal, power, greed, and survival within rural communities. The narrative centers around dangerous gangs involved in cattle theft, where every decision carries significant consequences and trust is frequently broken. This series aims to deliver authentic African storytelling while keeping viewers engaged with suspense, action, and emotional drama.
Written by Tshepo Ntlhakeng, the series draws inspiration from The Outlaws, striving to craft its own chronicle while introducing fresh characters, modern cinematography, and a new wave of African filmmakers.
The production took place under Brainsix Entertainment Studio, founded by Thabiso Masia and Thabang Lebetsa, who are dedicated to producing high-quality local films that honor Sesotho storytelling and African culture.
The storyline revolves around ruthless gangs engaged in cattle-rustling operations, depicting the dangerous conflicts that surface as they vie for power, money, and survival. As greed prevails, friendships shatter, alliances disintegrate, and betrayal becomes a stark reality. Although fictional, the narrative explores universal themes such as loyalty, family, ambition, and the repercussions of crime, making it relatable for audiences drawn to action-packed dramas.
Filmed in Ladybrand and Lesotho, the project was brought to life by the Brainsix Entertainment Studio team. Under the guidance of founders Thabiso Masia, Thabang Lebetsa, and Tshepo Ntlhakeng, along with a passionate group of local actors and crew members, the production aims for high-quality Sesotho films.
“Our passion for filmmaking began at a young age. We’ve always loved creating stories and acting, and over the years, we’ve continually honed our skills, equipment, and production quality. Every project has served as a stepping stone in our development as filmmakers,” they shared.
The team behind The Chronicles of Kabinete seeks to revive the golden era of traditional Sesotho cinema while preserving the language, culture, and authenticity of storytelling.
