The Free State Province showcased an abundance of talent at the Free State Rising Stars event held in Bloemfontein, where aspiring performers from across the region, as well as some from Lesotho, gathered to display their skills.
Participants came in large numbers, eager to present a variety of talents including dancing, poetry, music, acting, rap, and traditional dance. The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm as each act captivated the audience and judges alike.
Thabo Nolo, the founder of the talent competition, highlighted that Rising Stars is less about competition and more about unearthing hidden talent, providing a platform for local artists to be recognized and supported. He emphasized that the value of the event lies not just in winning trophies, but in the opportunities for networking and collaboration that can arise from such exposure.
During the event, one fortunate artist had the opportunity to record a music video live, a new initiative by the Rising Stars organizers aimed at fostering talent development. The video was filmed prior to announcing the final winners.
Three outstanding performers were recognized for their hard work: Magosi A Ngwao took third place in the junior category, BlackPearlzSA from Wepener secured second place, and Mpho Monnahela emerged as the overall winner.
Mpho truly transformed the atmosphere of the competition with her impressive performance, skillfully playing the keyboard while singing. Her ability to switch keys and maintain momentum kept the audience engaged, and she even encouraged the crowd to join in, creating an uplifting, church-like environment in the theatre. The show opened with last year’s winner, Sensoul, who performed her new single, showcasing the talent and creativity present in the region.
