AgriLinc, an innovative digital agricultural marketplace, scooped first place during the Mangaung Community Hackathon held recently.

The winning idea, developed by the Revo Tekh Team comprising of Vuyisile Motsamai, Tokyo Phuthi, Gift Mathopa, and Mokone Sepheka, aims to empower emerging Black South African farmers by directly connecting them with buyers and addressing critical systemic challenges within the agricultural sector.

The Mangaung Community Hackathon is an initiative designed to foster innovation and leverage technology for community growth within the Mangaung region. It brings together innovators, problem-solvers, and tech enthusiasts to develop solutions for local challenges.

The event, supported by various partners and sponsors, emphasized collaborative teamwork and the development of digital skills to create impactful solutions for the community.

AgriLinc South Africa is a transformative mobile-first digital agricultural marketplace, specifically designed to address the systemic challenges faced by emerging Black South African farmers. The platform bridges critical gaps in market access, logistics, finance, and knowledge, which have historically hindered the growth and sustainability of these vital agricultural stakeholders.

*Key features include: Direct Market Access, Localized Logistics Solutions, Knowledge and Digital Literacy, and Trust and Quality Assurance.

Emerging Black South African farmers often face significant obstacles due to historical injustices and socio-economic disparities — limited access to productive land, capital, and formal markets, inadequate infrastructure in rural areas, and gaps in modern agricultural knowledge. AgriLinc directly tackles these issues by empowering farmers to sell their produce directly and transparently, reducing the burden of transportation, providing pathways to essential financial services, and equipping farmers with the tools and information needed to thrive.

This initiative is crucial for contributing to food security and economic development within township and rural economies.

Following their first-place win, the Revo Tekh Team is poised to further develop and implement AgriLinc. The team plans to leverage this recognition and support from hackathon organizers and partners to bring their innovative solution to market, expanding its reach and impact across South Africa.
