His late mother bestowed upon him a gift he will cherish for life. A gift that he is using to earn respect and make a name for himself.

Bonolo Charity Klaas, a visual artist from M-Section in Botshabelo, was taught by his late mother, a visual artist who passed away in 2011. Bonolo’s artworks continue to earn him praise amongst his peers, and he is praised on social media for his portraits. He said that growing up, he used to watch his mother draw and would take her drawings and copy them.
After the death of his mother, he continued to draw and paint. He met new people in art, and learning from them helped him improve his skills as a visual artist.

Bonolo specializes in portraits, which he sells in his neighbourhood. He charges R150 for an A4 and R250 for an A3-sized artwork. He explained that he continues to sharpen his skills by watching YouTube tutorials to learn new techniques, adding that he has his own signature style.

“I discovered that I love visual art when I realised that I couldn’t sleep and was trying to figure out ideas and inspirations on what to draw next,” said Bonolo.
He explained that his work is not just art on paper, but attention-grabbing as it gets people to interpret his work in various ways.
