The Minister of Higher Education and Training, Buti Manamela, has unveiled the first center of its kind in the Free State and the ninth Chemical Industries Training and Education SETA (CHIETA) Smart Skills Centre.
This state-of-the-art facility features two smart boardrooms, Virtual Reality ports, and an ICT Centre equipped with laptops loaded with accredited online short courses. Learners and community members can come here to receive training in a variety of skills, ranging from cooking to changing a tire, using the Virtual Reality ports.

“Today, as we launch the Free State Smart Skills Centre here in Phuthaditjhaba, we are not simply opening a facility; we are reaffirming our collective commitment to building a Post-School Education and Training (PSET) system that meets the demands of the future,” said Minister Manamela.

CHIETA CEO Yershen Pillay stated that only 10.3% of rural households in the country have access to technology.
“We have opened this centre to bring services to our communities and bridge the digital divide. No one should be left behind in the digital skills revolution,” Yershen Pillay explained.
