Halali Imedi from Ficksburg in the Free State has recently been honoured as one of the 100 South African Shining Stars at a ceremony in Johannesburg. This recognition highlights her remarkable impact and dedication to making a difference in the lives of children.
At just 15 years old, Imedi founded an initiative to support underprivileged children, which has now expanded to assist 40 children aged 1-6. Her work goes beyond simply providing food and clothing donations; she also teaches basic literacy and numeracy, offers motivation and emotional support, and creates a safe, fun environment through activities like aerobics and sports, including soccer and netball.

“My leadership goes far beyond meeting basic needs; I am also nurturing potential, building confidence, and proving that young women can be powerful change-makers in their communities,” Imedi stated.
One of the unique aspects of her initiative is her personal commitment—every weekend and during school holidays, she cooks meals for children and homeless individuals, ensuring that the most vulnerable community members are cared for.
Her unwavering dedication has earned her the prestigious title of one of the 100 SA Shining Stars.

“This award is a testament to the power of community support. I am grateful to be making a significant difference in the lives of children in need by providing food and clothing, and I couldn’t do it without the generosity of people with good hearts who donate,” she expressed.
Halali Imedi is a true inspiration, demonstrating that compassion and commitment can bring about significant change in her community.
