Mamontsheng Portia Moleme, known as Witsi, is a passionate community leader, digital divide advocate, co-founder, and chairperson of 21st Century Tech Geeks, a nonprofit organisation based in Tweespruit, Free State.

She has dedicated her life to empowering rural and disadvantaged communities through technology education, digital literacy, and youth development.

Portia is a Free State World Special Award recipient for the month of November, awarded for her hard work in empowering rural and disadvantaged communities through technology, youth development, and digital literacy.

Portia’s work focuses on closing the digital gap, ensuring that young people—especially those with limited access to technology, including girls and young women—gain essential digital skills and the confidence to thrive in a modern, tech-driven world.

She firmly believes that every child and young person deserves equal opportunities to learn, create, and grow, regardless of their background.

Even though she did not complete her studies at UNISA, Portia successfully completed courses in Programming, Web Design, Network Technical Skills, and Workstation Technical Skills, as well as an Artificial Intelligence course with Cisco, the Google Cybersecurity Professional Certificate, and the FNB App Academy Certificate in Full Stack Development.

She applies these skills practically in her community work, delivering workshops, teaching digital literacy, and guiding learners from basic computer use to advanced digital awareness, cybersecurity knowledge, and online safety practices.

Portia is also a self-taught graphic designer, using creativity to support her nonprofit’s initiatives, develop educational materials, and make learning engaging for children. Her innovative approach ensures that workshops are interactive, fun, and impactful.

One of her signature contributions is the Khanyi the Unique-Con Initiative, a monthly digital literacy and anti-bullying programme for children aged 7–12. The initiative nurtures creativity, storytelling, problem-solving, and personal confidence.

Guided by her motto, “work with what we have”, Portia used her R370 SASSA grant to purchase gifts for participating children—demonstrating how even small resources can create a meaningful impact. The initiative will continue next year, working closely with local schools and ECD centres to expand its reach and impact.

She mentors children, supports them in understanding technology, and provides guidance on navigating social challenges safely and confidently. Her focus on empowering girls and young women ensures that all young learners, regardless of gender, have access to digital education and leadership opportunities.
