Katleho Mabote Scores His First Lead Role Youngins and Outlaws actor Katleho Mabote is set to appear in a new film titled Shepherd’s Joy, where he plays the lead character, Gcinikhaya. This role features a young Xhosa boy who is introverted yet expressive in his actions.

Hailing from Bloemfontein in the Free State, Katleho has made a name for himself by consistently showcasing an authentic and lively character, adding a touch of entertainment to our screens.

Katleho is excited and overwhelmed to step into this lead role as Gcinikhaya, a 15-year-old boy from Matatiele. He is a school dropout who becomes a herd boy and faces numerous challenges from his unsympathetic employers on his journey to becoming a livestock owner.

Shepherd’s Joy focuses on village life and the theme of livestock. “Playing a lead role is something I have always prayed for. It’s a dream come true for me, and it is also helping me grow as an actor who can work successfully under pressure,” said Katleho.

According to this talented star, his new role is somewhat similar to his character in Outlaws, as Gcinikhaya is also a Mosotho boy dealing with family and livestock dynamics. However, he has never portrayed a character quite like this before.

Gcinikhaya is young, introverted, comes from a good family background, and, most intriguingly for Katleho, is multilingual, speaking both IsiXhosa and Sesotho. Shepherd’s Joy will feature acclaimed actor Jet Novuka, known for his role as Zakes on Yizo Yizo and his appearances in prominent productions like Jacobs Cross, Isidingo, Igazi, Zone 14, and Uzalo.

The film is set to be released soon.
