Palesa Tshabalala, a 25-year-old entrepreneur from QwaQwa in the Free State, is making a name for herself as one of the exciting entrepreneurs to watch. As the owner of Palesa’s Baked Creations, she has turned her passion for baking into a thriving business since its establishment in 2021.
Palesa began her baking journey while she was still a student at the University of the Free State, QwaQwa Campus (Uniqwa). Initially, she baked simple treats like biscuits and muffins, all while balancing her studies. Baking has deep roots in her upbringing, with her family historically baking and selling goods within their community.
In December 2021, during the school holidays, Palesa officially launched her business with the goal of staying productive while indulging in something she loved. She started by selling biscuits and quickly built a loyal customer base through her dedication and consistent efforts.
A turning point came when Palesa won a free scone-baking class from a local baker through a Facebook post. This opportunity allowed her to expand her offerings and introduce scones to her product range while she continued enhancing her baking skills, particularly in cake-making.
As she aspired to grow her business, Palesa took a significant step by introducing her products to a retail store in Setsing, Qwaqwa. Starting in September 2025, this partnership exposed her creations to a broader audience, further boosting her confidence as a burgeoning entrepreneur.
October 2025 marked another milestone when she officially began offering cakes after gaining knowledge from social media resources. Since then, her business has flourished, guided by her faith, determination, and creativity.
Palesa’s Baked Creations offers a diverse range of products, including cakes for all occasions, dessert cakes, dessert cups, cupcakes, biscuits, and scones, among others. With a commitment to serving the QwaQwa community with quality and passion, Palesa aims to establish her brand as a reputable name in the baking industry.
