On Sunday, May 17, 2026, the St. Thomas Methodist Church, part of the Mokala-Montle District and St. Thomas Circuit in Bloemfontein, hosted a special prayer service dedicated to Lt. General Thabang Lesia, the South African Police Service Free State Provincial Commissioner, along with the provincial management team.
The service was led by Reverend TM Nketo, featuring a procession and hymns sung in Sotho, Tswana, and Xhosa. Scripture readings from Psalm 1 (Old Testament) and Luke 7:1-10 (New Testament) set the spiritual tone for the gathering.
The primary aim of the prayer service was to seek divine guidance, wisdom, strength, and protection for Lt. General Lesia as he leads the Free State SAPS. Congregants, church leaders, and members of the police service came together in a spirit of unity to support and uplift the leadership of the police.

The service extended its prayers to all members and management of the SAPS, focusing on the themes of unity, discipline, safety, and success in their daily responsibilities. The church emphasized the importance of spiritual encouragement and moral strength for law enforcement officers tasked with protecting communities across the province.
Special prayers were offered during the main service by Reverends MK Mdaka, D. Nyakane, S. Sotu, and TM Nketo. They prayed for peace in General Lesia’s leadership, stability within communities, and God’s favor on SAPS initiatives aimed at combating crime. Additional prayers addressed the issues of corruption and protection for victims of crime. As a symbol of divine protection, General Lesia was anointed with holy oil during the service.
Adding to the event’s significance, the SAPS Free State Choir and Provincial Band performed uplifting music, contributing to a spiritually enriching atmosphere. Their involvement underscored the commitment of SAPS members to community engagement through music and worship.
Grateful for the outpouring of support and prayers from the church, Lt. General Lesia acknowledged the vital role of faith-based organizations in strengthening ties between the police and the community. He introduced the senior management present at the service and concluded with a promise to remain focused on combating crime and lawlessness.
