Nine lions had been found abandoned on a farm. They were severely underweight and suffering from malnutrition. With no one left to care for them, they were taken in by Nature Conservation and placed in the care of Zanchieta Wildlife Rescue.
Alongside them were four rescued lionesses, also entrusted to Zanchieta by Nature Conservation.
For months, the team at Zanchieta worked tirelessly to nurse the animals back to health. They were carefully monitored, properly fed, and given the care they desperately needed. Today, these magnificent lions have recovered and now live safely at Zanchieta Wildlife Rescue—where they have found their forever home.
But giving rescued animals a second chance comes with a daily responsibility. Every day, these lions need food. Every day, they need care.
This Mandela Day, Willowvate Marketing & Promotions, in partnership with Zanchieta Wildlife Rescue, is asking the community to help them feed the rescued animals.

The 67 Minutes for Wildlife campaign invites the public, businesses, and families to donate pet food, blankets, towels, cleaning products, and other essential supplies that help care for rescued wildlife.
The community is invited to the 67 Minutes for Wildlife Activation at Pretty Gardens Shopping Centre, where they can meet representatives from Zanchieta Wildlife Rescue, learn about the rescued animals and discover how they can make a difference.
There will also be face painting and puppet shows for children, making it a fun outing for the whole family while supporting an important cause.
The campaign continues on 18 July with the Mandela Day Charity Event at Zanchieta Wildlife Rescue. For R130 per person, visitors can enjoy a memorable day at the sanctuary while knowing that every rand from ticket sales goes directly towards caring for rescued wildlife.
