Virginia rapper, YSO, whose real name is Xolisa Monye, is dedicated to elevating his hometown of Virginia in the Free State. At just 27 years old, he is a multitalented artist, taking on roles as a songwriter, rapper, and producer. YSO began his music journey at the age of 15, although he had already been penning songs before that.
As he marks his 12th year in the industry, YSO reflects on his journey. His debut single, “The Perfect Bow Tie,” was followed by a series of releases, including the SBWL EP in 2020. His impressive resume also includes being the Opening Act for yanga chief in 2019, participating in the BASA incubation program (2021), reaching the Jacquel Culture Top 20 in 2021, completing the Soul Candi Learning Program (2022), and being part of Downtown Music Hub (2023).
YSO has released five EPs to date, with his latest titled “Science of Survival.” Additionally, he is set to drop a music video for “Take it Easy,” one of the standout tracks from the EP.
